Graduate Level Intern
Makenzie Menaker is a counseling intern at Wise Family Wellness. She is currently working towards her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is originally from Mobile, AL, and has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Mississippi. Before graduate school, Makenzie worked for a large community mental health care system in Alabama. In her role, she initiated intake appointments, facilitated hospital admissions, and worked with the crisis response team to provide telephonic crisis intervention and triage services, including crisis counseling.
Makenzie approaches counseling from a relational-cultural perspective and incorporates techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy and expressive arts therapy. She is committed to creating safe spaces that respect and support clients’ values and identities. As a counselor, Makenzie is experienced in trauma-informed care and is passionate about empowering and encouraging clients as they move through different stages of life and development.
In her free time, she enjoys dancing, running, traveling, and trying all of the amazing restaurants that the DMV offers. She is looking forward to developing her professional counselor skills and identity, and feels honored to be a part of Wise Family Wellness.
