Educational and Behavioral Assessments:
We offer full educational and behavioral assessments to determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses, and to identify interventions that will best remediate skill deficits. Assessment can provide a point of reference for which to measure future progress and we provide comprehensive recommendations for accommodations, modifications and remediation. Assessment also provides a roadmap and treatment plan for behavioral modification and developmental growth.
Admissions testing is available for children who are required to take an individually administered test as part of the application process at many independent schools in Northern VA and the Washington D.C. area. The Wise Family provides pre-admission testing for independent schools and gifted-talented testing. (WISC and WPPSI) Our assessments are tailored to understand the unique needs of your family. To discuss your child’s assessment needs, please contact us for a free consultation.
To ensure optimal admissions test performance, we recommend that children be tested in the morning.
The fee(s) for the WPPSI-IV and WISC-V are both $350.00 (payable by cash, check or credit card). An invoice will be emailed to you and payment of a deposit is required to hold your appointment. If the deposit is not paid within 48 hours of the appointment, the appointment will be cancelled.
To schedule an educational assessment or admissions test (WISC-V or WPPSI-IV), please call 1-844-WISE FAM
Admissions Testing Process:
After you have scheduled an appointment with us, an email confirmation will be sent with directions to our office, a testing and release form, along with information on the WISC-V or WPPSI-IV test your child will be taking.
During the admissions test, your child will be asked to participate in a series of activities that assess their cognitive and language development as well as visual perceptual/visual-motor abilities.
No practice or preparation is necessary!
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you decide to completely cancel your testing appointment, please let us know at least 48 hours before your scheduled assessment. If you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment, your deposit will be fully refunded. Last minute cancellations will not be refunded.
RESCHEDULING YOUR TESTING APPOINTMENT: We understand that things come up last minute and that kids may come down with an illness before testing day. If you feel the need to reschedule your WISC or WPPSI assessment, please email your clinician DIRECTLY to ensure they receive the notification as soon as possible. Your clinician’s email address will be provided in the email confirmation.
ASSESSMENT RESULTS: A comprehensive report will be forwarded to both you and the school(s) within 7-10 days. If you need the results sooner, please let us know your school’s deadline when scheduling your appointment.
FAQs for admissions test:
HOW DO I TELL MY CHILD ABOUT THE TEST SO IT DOESN’T SEEM INTIMIDATING?
Tell your child that it is a chance to do some activities that will help us learn lots of things about his/her brain, and help us to find the best teacher to teach her! It isn’t a ‘playdate’ because no toys are available, but we do some word games and activities with blocks. There is no preparation required, and, in fact, preparation is discouraged.
WHAT KIND OF SETTING DOES THE TEST TAKE PLACE IN?
Your child and the evaluator will sit across from each other at a small table. The entire battery is directed by the evaluator in partnership with the child. There are word puzzles, questions about words, picture books that require some matching and a block task.
If you have questions about your appointment or need to reschedule, please call us at 1-844-WISE FAM and press extension 1 to reach Emily Hale, our Director of Details. She can also be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
